Their positive and enthusiastic efforts in driving the education programme forward has, particularly in recent years, yielded rich dividends. Current membership… The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (Irish Branch) currently has 70 qualified members, and student numbers are currently at an unprecedented high level (in excess of 40 students sitting exams this year). Professional seminars… Usually held in Dublin, regular one day seminars are held on topics of interest to the wide shipping community. They are very competitively priced, and offer opportunities for those interested in enhancing or refreshing their knowledge base. Influencing decision makers… The branch takes an active role in meeting and making representations to a wide variety of influential agencies ensuring that the interests of the shipping industry in Ireland are well protected. Social interaction… In addition to the regular meetings, the branch also organises an Annual Dinner (end of Sept.) where the Irish shipping glitterati can meet and enjoy an evening of social interaction in what always proves to be a great night. This is preceded by a game of golf for those interested in the small ball, where only the prizes are worse than the golf.
