Student membership is available to those persons who have registered with the ICS for the purpose of sitting the Professional Qualifying Examinations or the Foundation Diploma.

Student members have access to the following benefits:

* They may apply for exemptions from ICS exams on a case-by-case basis

* They may attend ICS functions including branch events at a discounted price

* They receive the Institute’s journal, Shipping Network

To be eligible to apply for student membership, candidates need to have:

* Gained passes in two subjects at Leaving Certificate honours level alternatively GCE 'A' level ( or equivalent Overseas academic qualification ).

OR

* Have completed one year’s employment in an organisation which has a bonafide connection with shipping business including service at sea.

OR

* Have passed the Institute’s Foundation Diploma in Shipping.
